Doosan Babcock launches Middle East Engineering Consultancy Hub

A team of technical specialists to be based in Abu Dhabi office

In response to customer demand for support across a range of specialist disciplines, international energy engineering company Doosan Babcock has launched an Engineering Consultancy Hub in Abu Dhabi. This is the latest phase in the company’s Middle East growth strategy, which has already seen substantial investment in operations in the UAE and Qatar. The new capability will provide a platform for further growth in the region, in support of Doosan Babcock’s overall global expansion plans.

A multi-disciplinary team comprised of specialist engineers, metallurgists and technicians will be based in the new Engineering Consultancy Hub to support customers across the Middle East region with a full suite of integrated products. The focus will be on plant integrity, offering customers industry-leading expertise in plant integrity management, plant condition assessment, vibration, noise and fatigue management, repair and replacement strategies, metallurgical services, specialised non-destructive testing (NDT) services, fitness-for-service assessments, and the development and execution of specialised weld repair solutions.

Doosan Babcock expects to have a team of more than 20 people in place by the end of Q1 2015, driven by strong customer demand for technical support across a wide range of challenging plant integrity issues. From this firm foundation, the company will rapidly grow its regional business, with an eye on further expansion into Qatar, Kuwait and Oman.

Commenting on the launch of the Hub, Doosan Babcock’s Vice President Global Service, Steve Hunt, said: “This hails the beginning of a significant localisation strategy in the region, which will involve substantial local recruitment and will support our ambitions to make the Middle East one of our largest operational centres and a major generator of revenue. We are already putting our expertise to work on delivering key projects for a number of customers across the Middle East. The launch of our new Consultancy Hub will allow us to offer our integrated capabilities to an even wider marketplace.”

The Engineering Consultancy Hub heralds the first step in Doosan Babcock’s plans to establish a global network of Engineering Consultancy Hubs. The company has invested significantly in its global expansion in recent years, with new offices established in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Hong Kong and Istanbul. Further global expansion opportunities will be sought through a combination of strong organic growth and an active acquisition strategy.
