OxyCoal™
Our OxyCoal™ technology harnesses state-of-the-art developments in carbon reduction to deliver efficient carbon capture solutions for your power generation needs.
At the heart of the technology lies the separation of air into two primary components - oxygen and nitrogen. By firing the coal in oxygen, our process delivers highly effective carbon capture. The resulting flue gas is directly compressed to remove its water vapour and capture the C02, ready for easy export to all forms of geological storage. The process leaves just a small quantity of inert gas.
Nitrogen removal prior to combustion, using an air separation plant, forms part of the OxyCoal™ process. Oxygen is also diluted with recycled flue gas to achieve optimum combustion conditions and convective heat transfer performance, in line with conventional firing.
The ease with which this technology can be applied to conventional coal-fired utility boilers - without the need for major pressure part modification, – allows it to be used for both new build and retrofits. Full air-firing capability can be retained.
