Young people undertaking Advanced Apprenticeships get both 'off-the-job' and 'on-the-job' training as well as block release at college to achieve a Technical Certificate. They build up industry specific knowledge and skills, gain qualifications and earn money all at the same time. Becoming a skilled craft worker means achieving a National Vocational Qualification Level 3 (NVQ), Technical Certificate and Key Skills as well as off-the-job, on-the-job training and assessment of competence in the workplace. NVQs are nationally recognised qualifications that are accepted by employers and academic institutes. An Advanced Apprenticeship leads to an NVQ at Level 3.
