I graduated in 1986 in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and joined the Doosan Babcock Graduate Engineer Programme. Within a year of completing my training, I became a Section Engineer. Operating at this intermediate stage of site management, I learnt how to improvise, how to promote innovative thinking, and developed my leadership skills to get the best from my team.
Within 7 years of graduation, I had progressed through the project planning team to the position of site manager. Here, I was responsible for the delivery of projects to a value of £10million, nearly 250 site staff, and an engineering/management support team of 30 people. Whilst operating at senior site management levels, I was offered the opportunity to work overseas in Hong Kong and the Middle East.
In 2001, I was appointed North East Region Manager where 700 office and site staff held me responsible for operating a sustainable business upon which they could base their futures and their career aspirations.
I have been a Director of the Company since 2002 and have held a number of senior positions within the Company since that date. I am currently appointed as the Director of Construction, responsible for the Doosan Babcock global construction team. As part of this interesting and challenging role I also offer managerial and strategic leadership to our overseas services business, and chair the Supervisory Boards of our German and Polish affiliate companies.
I have always found Doosan Babcock to be keen to reward any individuals who demonstrate determination, focus and commitment to their work. The development of people and long term career progression are fundamental to the Doosan Babcock culture, I believe my personal career with Doosan Babcock demonstrates that fact. Doosan Babcock is a global company and "global" has always been associated with exciting opportunities.
