Providing a boost to investments in the sector, the Francisco Perez Rios combined-cycle power plant will undergo extensive modernization until the end of 2017. As part of the project, the Mexican state company CFE has decided to replace two original gas units with new ones while partially keep the existing steam turbo machinery. As a result, total power output will increase from 489 MW to 550 MW.
Apart from being able to comply with the modernisation tender, Doosan Skoda Power displayed their capability and offering through a solution tailored to specific parameters for converting steam from new boilers into residual heat. This proved to be key in winning the contract.
This is the first project where Doosan Škoda Power will be working on turbines from other manufacturers on the American continent. Together with the power plant turbines Hermosillo 92 MW and El Sauz 147 MW, these will be the third and fourth installations in Mexico. Interestingly, the power plant is located 2,110 metres above sea level and its design is exterior-based.
